Alexandra Midal

Free-lance curator, design theoretician, and serial-killer enthusiast, Alexandra Midal started her career as Dan Graham’s assistant before becoming Director of the FRAC Haute-Normandie, and is currently responsible for the Masters Design program at the HEAD in Geneva. In the last years, she has produced three films of visual theory: Hocus Pocus : Twilight in my Mind (2009), Politique-Fiction (2012), and An Introduction to an Eames Atlas (2013). Recent curatorial projects include The Dream Team (St Etienne Design Biennale), Politique-Fiction (Cité du design, Saint-Etienne), Liberté, égalité, fraternité with M/M and Matali Crasset (Wolfsonian Museum, Miami), Tomorrow Now: Where Design Meets Sci-Fi (Mudam, Luxembourg), and recent monographic shows by Marguerite Humeau, Noam Toran, Superstudio, Auger-Loizeau, Carlo Mollino, EUG, Charles & Ray Eames and Pierre Hardy. In addition to writing for numerous journals and museum catalogues, she has published Matali Crasset : Works (Rizzoli – Norma) and three design theory books: Antidesign – Petite histoire de la capsule d’habitation en images (Epithèmes), Design – Introduction to the History of a Discipline (Press Pocket) and Design – An Anthology (Head – Genève).
