Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art is looking for someone to take charge of the daily management of MELLY, which specifically concerns aspects of visitor services, such as running its café and bookshop, as well as hospitably attending its general public and program audiences.

You may already know that, since April 2019, MELLY is the new name of the ground floor gallery space of Witte de With. Besides presenting changing art displays, MELLY also functions as a multi-purpose event space. Several events take place there on a weekly basis, especially on weekends, and are primarily organized by our curators of public programs and collective learning. MELLY needs someone that is hands-on, organized and friendly who can contribute to improving its visitors’ experience.

We are looking for someone that, apart from attending the general public, can also collaborate with the programming team to host events at MELLY in the best conditions possible. We are in search for someone that enjoys having constant interaction with people, and that has the ability to communicate effectively; someone that is technology literate, and who can also responsibly handle and reconcile cash; someone that upholds to standards of safety, courtesy, cleanliness and efficiency; someone that can plan the scheduling of gallery attendants, as well as lead their training and supervision.

Ideally, this manager of MELLY is certified in CPR, AED, and SVH, or, alternatively, who has the ability to be certified in six months. This is also someone that, ideally, has experience in HORECA or that works in the field of culture and who would like to take this opportunity to seriously gain HORECA experience or, perhaps, gain management skills in a contemporary art institution.

To be considered for this position, please send your C.V. along with a one-page cover letter, personally introducing yourself, describing why you would be interested in managing MELLY and what you could bring to improve it. Please address your materials to Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy, Director at Witte de With, and send these as PDF to [email protected] no later than 1 July 2019. Select candidates will be interviewed this summer; the job start-date is as soon as possible.

Practical considerations:

  • This is a full-time position. Salary commensurate with experience.
  • MELLY Manager reports to the Deputy Director of Witte de With, and works closely with Witte de With’s curators of public programs and collective learning.
  • MELLY and Witte de With welcomes audiences from the Netherlands and abroad on a daily-basis, with Dutch and English being the main languages of the workplace; candidates should have a strong level of conversational Dutch and English.
  • Living in Rotterdam or the vicinity is essential to more fully enjoy being part of the team and institutional developments. Our team members primarily live in the city, while some in Breda, The Hague, Schiedam, and close-by locations.
  • Witte de With endorses the Code Cultural Diversity.
