Ottinger’s photographic oeuvre includes the extensive visual research conducted in preparation for her films, as well as stills made during film shoots. Since her debut as a filmmaker with Laokoon & Sons in the early 1970s, Ulrike Ottinger has been a unique and provocative voice in the German film world. She has directed experimental documentaries and many feature films, which are characterized by an innovative and expressionistic use of costume, decor, and composition.
