Biography Tobias Zielony (Wuppertal, Germany, 1973)
Tobias Zielony studied Documentary Photography at the University of Wales, Newport, and Photography at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst, Leipzig. Tobias Zielony’s photographs are often portraits of groups of teenagers in suburban settings, or portraits of the social qualities of places off the beaten track. In 2005 he took part in the travelling exhibition Populism, presented at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Vilnius, the Museum for Architecture, Art and Design in Oslo, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Kunstverein in Frankfurt. In 2006 Zielony’s work was shown at Witte de With as part of the group exhibition Street: behind the cliché and the same year he had two solo exhibitions at the Kunsthaus Glarus in Switzerland and the Centre de la Photographie in Geneva. Recent exhibitions of his work include UNDER INFLUENCE, Kunsthaus Dresden, Germany (2008); Muzi Quawson / Tobias Zielony, basis, Frankfurt (2008); Gescheiterte Hoffnung. Romantik heute? Herbert-Gerisch Stiftung, Neumünster (2008); PLAT(T)FORM 08, Fotomuseum Winterthur, Winterthur (2008); and Made in Germany, Sprengel Museum, Hannover (2007).
