Willem Oorebeek

Biography Willem Oorebeek (Pernis, The Netherlands, 1953)
Willem Oorebeek studied at the Academy of Art in Rotterdam, was a lecturer at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, at De Ateliers in Amsterdam and the Hochschule der Künste in Hamburg. He utilizes different printing processes, fully employing the printing procedure’s inherent principles of juxtaposition and stratification in order to explore the themes of repetition, multiplication, seriality and order. In 1994, he had a solo exhibition at Witte de With entitled Willem Oorebeek – MONOLITH, lettered rock. More recently he has had solo shows at Culturgest, Lisbon (2008); SMAK Gent (2006); Galerie Schmela, Düsseldorf (2005); and Badischer Kunstverein, Karlsruhe (2004). In the course of his long-standing career his work has been shown at the Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam (1988; 2001); the Dutch Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, Venice (1997); and the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Winnepeg (1998). Group exhibitions include DIE LUCKY BUSH, MuHKA, Antwerp (2008); BIWAK, Frehrking Wiesehöfer, Cologne (2005); CANTOS, Casino Luxemburg (2005); Electric, Solar room with Joelle Tuerlinckx, TENT, Rotterdam (2003); and Total Blackout totale at the NICC in Antwerp (2000).
