Célula Arquitectura and Pedro Reyes, Vertical Park, 2001
Vertical Park2001 The project Vertical Park by Célula Arquitectura and Pedro Reyes proposes to recycle the Banobras Tower, designed by Mario Pani, to house the administrative offices of the Tlateloco district in Mexico City. Since the earthquake that shook the city in 1985, the building has been abandoned for lack of a series of needed structural reinforcements. The idea is to clear away the add-on constructions and eliminate the glass walls and interior partitions, so as to create a hanging garden. All the floors of the building would hold green spaces: a flower market, a green labyrinth, a botanical garden, a nursery. For the construction of the park, the project will count on a population of over 70,000 inhabitants of housing projects in Tlateloco to supply the plants.
