Ivan Navarro, Homeless Lamp, The Juice Sucker, 2005, 4.16 mins, DVD
Homeless Lamp, The Juice Sucker2005 Don Quijote was a revolutionary, in many respects a very naïve one, since his quest was both reactive and unproductive (inspired by ancient legends of chivalry). But his mind was set on changing the world, on saving his country, and ridding society from wrong-doing. In Ivan Navarro?s film, two young men set out on a quest to brighten the streets of New York with a light construction shaped like a shopping trolley. As they ?steal? electricity from private circuits, streetlamps, and power distributors for the greater public good, they are accompanied by a ?corrido?, a song that tells the story of a great man who went to battle, fighting for his country. Perhaps Navarro suggests here that personal ?revolutions? are as much about strategically using the tools society throws at us, than about blindly following our own ideals and insanities.
