?Mental Maps? are what Berlin painter and draughtsman Franz Ackermann calls his drawings: psycho-cartographies of his travels around the world, images of a globalized landscape in which conflict between the center and the periphery is drawing closer. Cities with magical names such as Singapore, Bangkok or Ulan Batar once seemed so far away. How can we represent the changes they underwent throughout the process of urbanization? Can we still conjure up an image of the fascination they once held now they have been transformed into tele-genic survival-show playgrounds for unbridled celebrities?
Biography Franz Ackermann (Neumarkt St. Veit, Germany, 1963)
