7 November 20042005 The grainy photographic surface can be made to appear, or to shine, like a body. It is an image of course, something that both captures and fixes a trace, be it a trace of light or a graffito from antiquity. But shining like a body, like flesh, the image projects a particular impression: that its subject or content or even composition is part of its very own memory and that it can even change or become transformed over time.
