Os Raimundos, os Severinos e os Franciscos1998 Brazilian Maurício Dias and Swiss Walter Riedweg create art projects about the reality in which those on the periphery of society live. In Os Raimundos, os Severinos e os Franciscos a static video registration shows how thirty janitors of apartments in the city of São Paolo enter their ?living rooms.? Everything is there, the refrigerator, the green plant, the television set and the sofa. The janitors all share one of the three family names as featured in the title of this work.
Biography
Mauricio Dias and Walter Riedweg
Maurício Dias & Walter Riedweg (Rio de Janeiro, 1964 / Luzern, 1955) both live in Rio de Janeiro.
Dias & Riedweg have been working together since 1993. Building on their earlier experiences, in the visual arts (Dias) and in theater and music (Riedweg), their work is decidedly interdisciplinary and is produced in close collaboration with specific groups in society. Displaying an intense formal interest in video installation, the work of Dias & Riedweg investigates how private psychologies affect public space, with issues of alterity as its central topic.
