Song Ming Ang

Ang Song Ming (b. 1980, Singapore) lives and works in Berlin and Singapore. Using music as a starting point, he constructs self-imposed restrictions for processes and situations to unfold. His work spans various media and is made from the overlapping perspectives of an artist, fan and amateur.

In 2008, Ang Song Ming was awarded the NAC Overseas Scholarship, and in 2009 completed his MA (with Distinction) in Aural & Visual Cultures from Goldsmiths College, London, under the supervision of Kodwo Eshun from The Otolith Group. Since then, Ang has been awarded artist residencies with ARCUS Project (Japan), Gertrude Contemporary (Melbourne) and Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin). He participated in the 3rd Singapore Biennale in 2011, and was a Singapore finalist for the Sovereign Asian Art Prize in 2010. Ang has presented solo shows at SoundFjord (London), Stanley Picker Gallery (London), The Substation (Singapore), João Cocteau (Berlin) and Spring Workshop (Hong Kong). He is the 2011 recipient of the Young Artist Award, conferred by the National Arts Council of Singapore.
