Praneet Soi

Praneet Soi (b. 1971, India) lives and works in Amsterdam and India. His work spans a wide range of media including painting, drawing, collage, text slide shows and performance-lectures. Soi’s exploration of media imagery led him to experiment with fragmentations and distortions of the human body and the environment around him.

Praneet Soi’s solo exhibitions, among others include Okhla Mandi, Martin van Zomeren, Amsterdam (2012); Critical Estrangement, Museo Experimental El Eco, Mexico City (2011); Van Abbe Museum, Eindhoven (curated by Charles Esche) (2009). He has also participated in group exhibitions that include Cynical Love: Life in the Everyday, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Noida (2012); Manifesta 9, Genk (curated by Cuauhtémoc Medina) (2012); Out of Here, Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven (curated by Christiane Berndes and Charles Esche)(2011); Generation in Transition. New Art from India, Zacheta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw (2011); Iedereen kan alles!? Genie zonder Talent/ Genius without Talent, De Appel, Amsterdam (2011); Ural Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art, Ekatarinburg, Russia (2010), among others. He has participated in the first curated Indian National Pavilion at the 54th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia in 2011. Praneet Soi obtained his BA and MA degree in painting from the Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, Gujarat, India, an MA degree in visual arts from University Of California at San Diego, USA (2001), while he also studied at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam (2002-2003).
