A roundtable, conceived by artist Marwa Arsanios as part of What representations?, extending her consideration of the Contemporary Arab Representations Beirut / Lebanon program that took place at Witte de With in 2002. Through a conversation with academics, writers, and fellow artists Arsanios approaches questions regarding the twin flows of money and knowledge exchange in relation to the past and present of Beirut and its artistic communities. Speakers variously draw out connections with real estate, and the affective relationship we have to memory. Arsanios also, within the scope of Witte de With’s formalisation of its archive, asks how we can think of an institution in a feminist sense, or indeed as a feminist institution through the core question of labour.
