The Generali Foundation Collection has a unique, almost “public” character, since it is assembled independently – even though it is financed by an insurance company – and its acquisitions are not swayed by the taste of the masses. Generali’s motives will be explained by the company’s former chairman, Dietrich Karner, during the symposium. The symposium will be followed by a preview at the exhibition conducted by Sabine Breitwieser at 4:30 p.m.

Speakers: Dietrich Karner (former chairman of Generali Holding, Chairman of the Generali Foundation), Arjo Klamer (Professor in the Economics of Art and Culture, Erasmus University), Annabelle Birnie (Chief Curator of the ING Art Collection), and Rein Wolfs (Head of Presentations at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, former director of the Migros Museum, Zurich).

The program was organized in consultation with the recently established Vereniging Bedrijfscollecties Nederland (VBCN – Association of Corporate Collections in the Netherlands).
