Educators and art mediators working within the field of arts and culture are invited to join a Masterclass Art Mediation by Sepake Angiama and Clare Butcher. For this second edition of the 100% Contemporary Masterclass series, Sepake Angiama and Clare Butcher will introduce the project Laufmappe, which was part of the documenta 14 education program. A 'laufmappe' is the name given to a working folder which usually circulates through an office or system - is added to, edited, and reorganised as a process develops. The word, literally meaning "walking file", proved to be an enticing term for the education program of documenta 14. Adopting the term, we invite you to walk together through an educational ‘folder’ - a resource for those with an active pedagogic interest. Deriving from the many works, practices, methods and politics within documenta 14, we will think collectively about the necessary formats and questions around how artworks, artists and exhibitions connect with students and classrooms. By doing so, we hope to test what a ‘walking file’ might become in the hands of our participants.

This masterclass is part of the 100% Contemporary professional development masterclass series initiated by Witte de With, TENT and MAMA. For each session an (inter)national guest will address the intentions and objectives of art mediation with special regard to high school students. How do we deal with the inherent contradictions of engaging with the current practice? How is the daily routine of mediation embedded in a complex network of different implicit goals between schools and institutions? Can we combine, on one hand transformation processes in institutional tendencies and on the other hand, a critical art-mediation discourse with a view towards having social impact?
