Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy

Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy started her tenure at the Witte de With in January 2018, and begins programming midway this year. Originally from Mexico, she has worked internationally as a curator of contemporary art, as well as in developing independent initiatives that range from teaching, writing and publishing, to organizing museum projects to serving as counselor for Fundación Alumnos47 and as board member of Creative Time. She comes to the Witte de With after working at Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros in New York and Caracas, where she was its curator of contemporary art from 2011 until 2017. She most recently organized The Neighbors (2016−2017), an exhibition series at The Bronx Museum of the Arts in New York, and Let’s Walk Together (2016), a survey exhibition of Mario Garcia Torres at Museo Tamayo in Mexico City, the institution which she directed in 2009−2010. Hernández Chong Cuy was artistic director and chief curator of the 9th Mercosul Biennial in Porto Alegre, Brasil (2013) and an agent of dOCUMENTA[13] (2012) in Kassel. Prior to this, in New York, she was curator and programs manager at Art in General and associate curator at Americas Society.
