Brian Jungen, Modern Sculpture, 2005 lava rock and footballs/soccer balls Private Collection, Vancouver Modern Sculpture is made from deconstructed silver soccer balls. The silver balls (with their black Nike logos) are reconfigured into cylindrical shapes that suggest the small stones that dot the Reykjavik lava fields. The stubby, compact floor pieces are weighted with lava stones. Modern Sculpture succinctly combines the local and the global, the past and the present, suggesting, perhaps, that the battle for commerce is won on the playing fields of art. close
